Today’s Quote: “One must avoid superstitious beliefs, not only in esoteric subjects but also in any field of knowledge.” –GMCKS
There was a story of a husband and wife in the kitchen and the husband noticed the wife cutting off the ends of a pot roast she was preparing to cook. The husband asked, “Honey, why do you cuts the ends off the pot roast every time you put it in the pan?” She said, “Well that’s what my mom taught me and I think it makes the meat more tender. Hmm. Let me ask my mom.”
The wife calls up her mom and asks, “Mom, remember when you taught me how to cook pot roast and you always would cut the ends off? Why did we do that?” Her mom replied, “Well that’s what my mom taught me and I think it prevents the meat from drying out. Hmm. Why don’t you ask your grandmother?”
The wife gives her grandmother a call, fearing it may be too late in the evening but she’s NEEDS to know the answer this question about cutting off the ends of the pot roast.
She gets her grandmother on the phone and quickly asks, “Grandma, why did you cut the ends off the pot roast when you were teaching mom in the kitchen? Was it because it made the meat more tender or it prevented it from drying out?”
The Grandma, a bit confused by the question simply says, “Well, I cut the ends off because the pan we had was too small.”
This is an example of superstitious beliefs, or blind beliefs, or calcified ideas. Just because someone talks or writes about something does not make it true or right.
Anyone can say or write anything, especially in the world of esoteric or spiritual studies. One must be able to discern i.e. accurately judge, why something is either true, false, or temporarily true.
Same goes with all fields of knowledge…medicine, arts, science, engineering, business, economics, philosophy, humanities….just because something has been done the same way for 1,000’s of years does not make it right.
A simple way to improve your discernment abilities is to ask the question, “How did you reach that conclusion and why?”
By following people or knowledge blindly, think about how much ‘meat’ you could be wasting.
